Since Austin Junior Volleyball (AJV) was founded in 1984, the non-profit youth organization has held a tradition of training excellence. AJV chooses the best players in the Central Texas area to compete locally, regionally, and nationally in USA Volleyball sanctioned tournaments.
AJV fields 51 of Central Texas’ most competitive club volleyball teams for girls and boys ages 11-18. Since 1992, 21 of the 23 Austin American-Statesman Volleyball Players of the Year have been Austin Juniors athletes. Four players have also been named the Gatorade Player of the Year for the entire state of Texas.
In addition to regional and state-wide success, AJV teams have won six gold medals at the USA Junior National Championships along with one silver medal and seven bronze medals. At these national tournaments, Austin Juniors’ athletes have received All-Tournament honors 60 times.
Volleyball is a fun and lively sport, but playing club volleyball is a serious matter for many. Austin Juniors’ youth volleyball teams are meant as a vehicle for young athletes to master the game, and we travel around the country so athletes can be seen by college coaches in hopes of being recruited and receiving a college athletic scholarship. AJV even provides a full-time staff member that is dedicated to assisting its athletes in the recruiting process. In 33 years, more than 350 AJV athletes have continued their volleyball career in college.
But whether you are looking to compete in college or make your school team, Austin Junior Volleyball has the resources to allow you to achieve your goals. For athletes that aren’t ready for a club team, AJV offers an athletic development program with three different levels to build your fundamentals and increase your athleticism. AJV also offers a league-style Academy program for kids under 14 to learn the value of team dynamics, which is crucial to high-level volleyball.
Ready to get involved? Austin Juniors won’t be holding club tryouts for the 2018 season until July, but kids can get involved with the organization by joining AJV’s athletic development program. Beginners can enroll in the four-week Level I program to learn the basic skills and rules of volleyball. Players with a little more experience can join the skill-specific clinics for serving, passing, setting or hitting for more advanced instruction. AJV also offers camps and clinics all summer!
